Explore underwater wildlife through my lens — from Bali’s black sands to Australia’s temperate waters
Tulamben Macro — Small-World Treasures
Tulamben, on the northeast coast of Bali, is world-famous for its black sand slopes and the legendary Liberty wreck — but for me, it’s the small details that make this site so special. The volcanic sand is a perfect stage for some of the ocean’s most unusual characters: flamboyant cuttlefish, ghost pipefish, hairy shrimp, and nudibranchs of every colour imaginable. Every dive here feels like a treasure hunt — searching patiently, slowing down, and letting your eyes adjust to the tiny world hiding in plain sight.
Macro photography in Tulamben is about more than just recording a species. It’s about capturing a personality, a behaviour, or a fleeting moment that most divers will miss if they swim too quickly past. The critters here remind me that the ocean’s greatest wonders are often the smallest. This gallery is a collection of those encounters — the details that make Tulamben a paradise for macro enthusiasts and underwater photographers alike.
